Commodores : NightShift (1985)

Marvin, he was a friend of mine
And he could sing a song
His heart in every line
Marvin sang of the joy and pain
He opened up our minds
And I still can hear him say
Aw, talk to me so you can see
What's going on
Say you will sing your songs
Forevermore, evermore

Gonna be some sweet sounds coming down
On the nightshift
I bet you're singing proud
Oh, I bet you'll pull a crowd
Gonna be a long night, it's gonna be all right
On the nightshift
Oh you found another home, I know you're not alone
On the nightshift

Jackie, hey what you doing now
It seems like yesterday
When we were working out
Jackie, you set the world on fire
You came and gifted us
Your love it lifted us higher and higher
Keep it up and we'll be there
At your side
Oh say you will sing your songs
Forevermore, evermore

Gonna be some sweet sounds coming down
On the nightshift
I bet you're singing proud
Oh, I bet you'll pull a crowd
Gonna be a long night, it's gonna be all right
On the nightshift
Oh you found another home, I know you're not alone
On the nightshift

Gonna miss your sweet voice, that soulful noise
On the nightshift
We all remember you
Ooh, your songs are coming through
At the end of a long day it's gonna be okay
On the nightshift
You found another home, I know you're not alone
On the nightshift

The Commodores : Sail On

Sail on down the line
Bout a half a mile or so
And a don't really wanna know a
Where you're goin
Maybe once or twice you see
Time after time I tried-a to,
To hold on to what we got
But a now you're goin
And I don't mind
About the things you're gonna say Lord
I gave all my money, and my time
I know it's a shame
But I'm givin you back your name
Yeah, yeah.
Yes I'll be on my way
I won't be back to stay
I guess I'll move along
I'm lookin for a good time.
Sail on down the line,
Ain't it funny how time can gon on-a
friends say they told me so,
But it doesn't matter.
It was plain to see that a small town boy like me
Just-a wasn't your cup of tea,
It was wishful thinkin.
I gave you my heart and I tried to make you happy,
And you gave me nothin in return.
You know, it ain't so hard to say,
Would you please just go away.
Yeah, yeah.
I've thrown away the blue
I'm tired of being used,
I want everyone to know
I'm lookin for a good time.
Good time, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Got nothin else to lose,
I'm tired of being used,
I want everyone to know
I'm lookin for a good time,
Good time, yeah.
Whoa oh,
Sail on, honey
Good times never felt so good.
Sail on sugar,
Good times never felt so goo.
Sail on.

The Commodores : Still (Lionel Richie)

STILL

Lady, Morning's just a moment away
And I'm without you once again
You laughed at me
You said you didn't needed me
I wonder if you need me now

So many dreams that flew away
So many words we didn't say
Two people lost in a storm
Where did we go?
Where'd we go?

We lost what we both had found
You know we let each other down
But then most of all
I Do Love You
Still!

We played the games that people play
We made our mistakes along the way
Somehow I know deep in my heart
You needed me
'Cause I needed you so desperatly!
We were too blind to see
But then most of all
I Do Love You
Still!

Prince: Purple Rain

This song from the movie with the same name released in 06/84, a movie that was number one that year and so was the single and the album for this song. Considered by many as one of the greatest song of the 80's (not by me though). It also won the Academy Awards of best movie song for 1984. The following video is from a live show in Tokyo,Japan.

I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted to one time see u laughing
I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain

Purple rain Purple rain
Purple rain Purple rain
Purple rain Purple rain

I only wanted to see you bathing in the purple rain

I never wanted to be your weekend lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend
Baby I could never steal you from another
It's such a shame our friendship had 2 end

Purple rain Purple rain
Purple rain Purple rain
Purple rain Purple rain

I only wanted to see you underneath the purple rain

Honey I know, I know, I know times are changing
It's time we all reach out for something new
That means you to
You say you want a leader
But you can't seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it
And let me guide you to the purple rain

Purple rain Purple rain
Purple rain Purple rain

If you know what I'm singing about up here
C'mon raise your hand

Purple rain Purple rain

I only want to see you , only want to see you
In the purple rain
